While Boer Goats have been specifically bred over many decades to excel under harsh, arid, extensive areas with poor quality grazing, they are a very adaptable breed and do well in a very wide range of climatic conditions. They are found in many countries across the world.
Their lean meat (less fat insulation than for example sheep) and short hair coat (as opposed to wool on sheep), mean that a combination of low temperatures, rain and wind can produce mortalities or production losses. Areas that are prone to the above weather combinations are generally not suitable for Boer Goats. However, given the right level of infrastructure and care, the breed will do well, albeit with a higher level of management input required.
