The Southern African market demand for Boergoats continues to outstrip supply. Existing producers are looking for ways to profitably expand their existing operations while new producers search for the skills and knowledge to enter this profitable market segment.

Profitable Boergoat Farming course

To satisfy this demand, Johan Steyn, developer of this Boergoats.co.za website and owner of the well-known Patriot Boergoat Stud (previously Thornview Boergoat Stud) in South Africa, has developed the 1-day Profitable Boergoat Farming course aimed both at empowering newcomers to this exciting world of Boer Goats as well as improving the knowledge and skills levels of existing Boer Goat farmers. It will equip students with the essential skills they need to make a success of their farming operation as well as improving their profitability and sustainability.

The course covers both theoretical and practical modules and is held monthly January - November at Thornview Ranch, near the town of Potchefstroom in the North West Province of South Africa. Other venues in South Africa will be considered should a minimum of 8 students book for such a course.

Courses are presented in either English or Afrikaans on alternate months. The course - which allows you to apply your newly acquired knowledge in your own operation right away - covers the following aspects in theoretical and practical modules:

• Infrastructure development for a Boergoat farm
• Goat health & preventative medicine
• Feeding & nutrition

• Managing the Lambing Season
• Improving your profitability

• View infrastructure: goat-proof fences, lambing and handling facilities.
• Practical demonstrations on inoculating, dipping, castrating and deworming animals.
• Discuss and view various feed rations.
• View housing facilities, feed and watering troughs and other practical elements and items related to a Boergoat farming operation.
